Haddad has been researching the past since 1967 when decided to trace her family (which she did to the 1500s in England & Wales).
With part of her university degree in history and social science, Katheryn Maddox Haddad has written 17 historical novels. She spends an average of 300 hours researching for each novel. Her filing cabinet is full of her research.
She has traveled to courthouses, cemeteries, old homesteads, ghost towns, old mines, and abandoned dumps. She has spent hundreds of hours in historical libraries reading and deciphering old handwriting and dissecting ancient eye-witness diaries and logs as well as microfilm of ancient newspapers, censuses, etc. She has interviewed copper miners, physicians, carpenters, blacksmiths, horse lovers, archaeologists. She has read and analyzed Plato, Philo of Alexandria, Josephus, Seneca.
