The scripture for today, March 3, is Genesis 3:3 as found in the Old Testament of the Bible:

” ‘But God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it or you will die.’ “

This is a conversation Eve is having with Satan in the Garden of Eden. She was a little put out by God that he would withhold even one item from her. So she misrepresented God. What God actually said was….

“You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.” Eve had added to what God had said: “You must not touch it.”

Do we do that? When we get put out by someone, do we embellish a little and add a few little things to an event in order to make the other person look worse than s/he really is? Are we in the habit of making ourselves a victim so we can get other people’s sympathy and maybe get other people to act on our behalf?

I Corinthians 13:5 says love does not keep a record of wrongs. If you have a feud going with someone, try breaking the cycle . I Corinthians 13:7 says love protects, always trusts, always hopes. Bring hope back. Then keep hope alive.

  1. I disagree with your comment about Eve. She MAY have been put out but you have no way of knowing if she just “added” the phrase, We do not read of God indtructing her, only Adam, perhaps Adam added those words, otherwise I like your work

    • Thank you for your observations and comment. It takes a little research, but you will find this in Genesis 2:16-17: “The Lord God commanded the man saying, ‘From any tree of the garden you may eat freely; but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day you eat from it, you will surely die.’ “

  2. STRAIGHT TO THE TOP! – Graham, Texas – When I was 19 and my wife was 16 we started our own construction company. We had no money and no jobs but I promised to pay the owner of a hard ware store $3 a weeks for an electric saw. The company grew into a large industrial/commercial business building schools, clinics, churches, manu-facturing plants, setting heavy machinery and we actual built a zoo with no fences, and a little bit of railroad. Also restored an 1867 calvary fort complete with hand whittled wooden pegs. After 28 years I burned out working 16 to 18 hours a day. My wife owned a furniture store and I became an employee. Went back to school and earned my CHC which enabled me to study for my Interior Design degree and registration. Practiced that for 28 years. Said I would never retire, but my wife closed the store! Past Lay Preacher in Methodist Church. Currently non-denominational. Have taught in Assembly of God, non-denominational charisamatic and Methodist. Teach Bible Studies, Christian Values and Christian Living. Artist, Interior designer, writer, Favorite hobby is reading, or is that sandpapering? We just sold our two story Victorian home with 17 rooms, 4 full baths, 2 half baths. Built in 1900 and 1901. Since it is all wood, keeping it in repair was a full time job. Currently living in the 'burbs', If there is such a thing in TEXAS! Can now mow the yard in only one and one half hours. Whooopieee!

Very well put. The lesson could not be missed by anyone.
If not word for word in the Bible, it is a parable.
Better than the paraphrases that are sold as Bibles
